“Ghibli-inspired Tokyo quest pawns regrets in skies.”
BookTuber Opinions
This fantastical cozy fantasy set in Tokyo promises to be a Ghibli movie in book form and succeeds at the vibe with beautiful dreamlike scenes like castles in the sky, fate inked in tattoos, and origami paper cranes. It has that perfect blend of cozy and creepy, where you're like, I don't know what's going on but the atmosphere is stunning. It's the story of a girl looking for her lost father who owned a pawn shop for regrets, setting up a touching human tale. But it barrels through everything at breakneck pace, with flat characters you could origami, and forced emotions like the author cupping your cheeks to make you cry. I loved the Ghibli feel but disliked the rushed execution; recommend for atmospheric fantasy lovers who can overlook depth.
