This was my favorite fantasy of the month—a Beauty and the Beast retelling by Elizabeth Lim, author of Six Crimson Cranes, that speaks straight to my soul with her dragon-filled, Chinese mythology-inspired worlds. The protagonist, a forger with a mysterious past, strikes a marriage of convenience with a lord to protect her family, forging a wedding contract while navigating black market crime, underwater dragon realms, and her artistic skills. I adored the magical underwater setting, action-heavy plot focused on her growth, and subtle ties to Lim's previous books with recognizable dragons, though I wished for more romance time with the couple whose dynamic was lovely. It felt fresh and enchanting, making everything 10 times more magical. Highly recommend to dragon lovers and fans of The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea for its immersive fairy tale vibes.
