“Heir uncovers murder, gardens' horrors with risky nephew.”
BookTuber Opinions
Hazelthorn blends botanical and body horror with Knives Out vibes, following a sickly boy heir to a billionaire guardian's estate, confined from gardens and outsiders, especially the nephew who may have tried to murder him at age seven. After the guardian's suspicious death, the greedy family lingers, pressuring him amid mysteries of the house, garden, and his own condition, unraveling with the nephew's return. The flowery, purple prose felt heavy and rich—like soil under fingernails—pulling me into a green, forest-floor immersion that was over-the-top atmospheric. I really enjoyed the two boys' relationship development and the dirtiness; it's not for everyone if you dislike descriptive overload, but it left me feeling transformed. CG Drews excites me for future works—this was dirty in the best way.
