Your Blood, My Bones

Your Blood, My Bones hooked me with its dilapidated haunted house overtaken by vines, secret society, and creepy greenhouse in a town full of mysteries, starting with the protagonist returning to burn her childhood home. She finds her chained childhood best friend alive in the cellar after years, sparking investigation into family secrets, magical animal transformations, and flashbacks to an idyllic yet eerie past. I love the friends-to-estranged tension, untrustworthy characters, and gross nature elements—deliciously creepy. Note: It connects to her earlier book The Whispering Dark, with shared characters in the second half that surprised me, but you can enter without prior knowledge. Kelly Andrew is an author I talk about nonstop; this was creepy good and highly enjoyable for summer chills.
